Department of Biology
Undergraduate Programs

Life, as biologists know, is infinitely complex. That's what makes the study of life so rich and significant. At PLNU, you will join others who find complexity exciting, fascinating, and rewarding. We offer four undergraduate degree programs, a fabulous pre-med program, three options for minors, and a nationally-recognized undergraduate research program.

Graduate Programs

PLNU offers a unique and forward-thinking approach to graduate biology education. You will be challenged to think from multiple perspectives, and you will gain the deep understanding of biological concepts needed to share your knowledge with students in ways that are meaningful and effective.
"For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together." Colossians 1:16-17
Science Education Programs
Our biology majors aren't just hulled up in the science building. Engaging programs like Perspectives on Science, Science Honors' Weekend, University NOW, WCBSURC, and visiting speakers like Dr. Francis Collins and Dr. Randy Isaac, ASA are just a few ways science and community are converging at PLNU.
Undergraduate Research Program
Undergraduate research at PLNU began in the mid 1970s through the efforts of Dr. Kenneth Hyde. Hundreds of students have traveled the world doing scientific research and going on to careers in science. Checkout the Costa Rica 2009 research summary and slide show.
Campaign for the Sciences
Nothing less than an exciting renaissance, the Campaign for the Sciences will comprise two phases: construction of a new science facility and renovation of the current science building.
